At Richland Animal Clinic, we recommend that all pet owners consider and understand the benefits of vaccinations. Vaccines play a key role in helping fight off viruses and preventing disease. A vaccine is a small dose of the virus that will stimulate antibodies and help form an immunity against that specified illness. In the case of exposure, your pet will have the ability to fight off that virus.
At Richland Animal Clinic, our veterinarians can determine the correct vaccinations for your pet along with a vaccination schedule. We take into account your pet’s geographical factors, environment, health, age, lifestyle, and any predisposed conditions.
We also utilize Titer testing to help us understand your pet’s vaccination needs. This kind of blood testing recognizes antibodies to disease and detects parvovirus, distemper, adenovirus, and other diseases. Rather than guessing on which vaccinations to administer to your pet, veterinarians are using titer testing to narrow down a pet’s risk factors, identify existing immunities, and decrease the amount of vaccines given. A titer test may be especially useful for pet’s with an unknown vaccine history or puppies.
It should be noted that a Titer test is not recommended for detecting bordetella, lymes disease, or canine leptospirosis.
Vaccine titers are a valuable part of our overall wellness evaluation and will help us better understand your pet and determine an appropriate vaccine program. Call Richland Animal Clinic today to schedule a consultation
